Fun activities for Preschoolers on a Monsoon Season

Rainy weather is a great topic to explore with preschoolers. Most preschoolers love the rain – watching it, walking in it, and even jumping in puddles. Preschoolers can discover that rain provides needed water for animals and plants and other science concepts.

There are a lot of fun things to do on a rainy day. If you are wondering what to do on a rainy day, find activities to do on a rainy day with some great ideas below!

How to Make Rain in a Jar- weather science for kids

Why not surprise your kids by demonstrating how it rains?  They will love it!

Materials needed:
  • glass jar
  • paper plate or bowl
  • ice
  • hot water

Boil some water in the tea kettle then added 2-3 inches to the glass jar, instruct your children not to touch the jar. Then, put the paper plate on top of the jar of hot water and let it sit for a few minutes.

Then put ice on top of the paper plate.
How does it work?
The plate seals in the warm air in the jar.  Once the ice is added to the plate the cold temperature causes the moisture in the jar to condense and form water droplets. This is the same thing that happens in the atmosphere as warm, moist air rises and meets colder temperatures high in the atmosphere. Water vapor condenses and forms precipitation that falls to the Earth as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
Have fun explaining this process to your students.
